Steve P. Sanders, DO, MBA, FACOI, FACPE was formerly the Chief Medical Officer for Carondelet Health System in Kansas City, MO with responsibilities for medical management, quality initiatives, residency training, long-term care initiatives and patient safety for St. Joseph Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center. During his tenure, St. Joseph Medical Center was reported by the New York Times as one of the top five hospitals in the U.S. providing evidence-based treatment for 100% of patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction. St. Joseph Medical Center was also cited in Modern Healthcare (11/14/05) as the top hospital in Kansas City (and the only hospital in the Ascension Health System for hip and knee replacements scoring 99.14% in the CMS pay-for-performance demonstration project. They also received an award from CMS for achieving 1st decile scores in three out of four CMS/Premier/HQI core measures in 2005. Clinically, Dr. Sanders now serves as a traditional internist providing outpatient medical care and hospital services for patients ages 16 and beyond. He continues to write on issues in medicine and promoting patient-centered creation of value in health care.
